Some 'natural cosmetics' contain a chemical known as'Sodium laureth suphate'..what is this exactly?

It's ';a detergent and surfactant found in many personal care products (soaps, shampoos, toothpaste etc.). It is an inexpensive and very effective foamer.';

I don't know what good it does for cosmetics, tho.Some 'natural cosmetics' contain a chemical known as'Sodium laureth suphate'..what is this exactly?
it is basically a detergent. theoretically it could be used in cosmetics to act as a indicator that someone may be sensitive to other products found in the cosmetics and it is not found to be an irritant in quantities lower then 2%.Also it helps removal of the product
