Tommaso Campenella wrote a utopian book in 1623 called ';The City of the Sun.'; In his utopia the use of cosmetics is a capital crime, because it may lead men to mate with eugenically undesirable women who use makeup to look like something they are not.

Strictly speaking, it does mess with natural selection. Pure NS theory says that those that are unable to mate will not pass on their genes. In theory, this will cause ';ugliness'; genes to not be passed on.
Problem is, human mating has never been about mating with the person with the most attractive genes. Sure, attractive people get more attention. But, cosmetics or not, history has been filled with plenty of mating.Cosmetics mess with natural selection?
